Mercury 3.3 pumps little water and other issue

I tried wire in my Mercury 2.2 but no luck. What worked was a small drill bit rotated by hand. Took quite a while.

What size wire was that? I just got electric guitar strings from ebay, will see if they can do.

I can't remember, would have been a piece if stiff wire that I had lying around- possibly piano wire . I'm not sure a guitar wire would be strong enough as, by the thicker sizes are spiral wound . If you have guitar wire lying around, it's worth a try. The drill bit was maybe 1/8" or around 1mm/1.5mm, that sort of size. Drill bit removes the crud whereas a piece of wire just breaks it off and doesn't scrape it out efficiently.
