Mercury 2 stroke 6 hp.....problems.

I've purchased a 6hp outboard. It had not been run this year or last, so decided on a service. Cleaned sparks, filter, waiting on a new impeller etc. I decide to see if she would fire....it did.
However I'm confused on the tiller. It fired full throttle even though the tiller handle said neutral. I twisted all the way to reverse and it fired up in neutral. I gently increased the handle and it went what seemed full throttle w8th a little jolt. From 0 to full in a second. I'm assuming the handle is mis aligned or something is off somewhere....any pointers?

Welcome to the forum.

It does sound as though the gear shift and throttle linkages are all out of adjustment and synchronisation with each other.

You will hopefully find the information you need to set this up correctly in one of the workshop manuals at http://162.144.28.33/lib/library.html

If one of the OEM manuals covers your model then it will be the best one to use otherwise it should be covered by one of the Non OEM (Seloc ???) manuals
