Anyone out there with a manual for a Merc 2.2?
I need to know how to check for the carb float level... its usuallly done by measuring the distance between the float arm and a straight edge across the carb body.
My motor starts, but hunts badly at low to mid revs. If it keeps going long enough to get to full chat its ok.
The carb has been cleaned; the jet is clear; new spark plug put in; new fuel with correct mix. If anyone has another suggestion for cause, fire away ('cos the motor ain't).

If you PM me your email address, I can send you something showing where its measured, and the height you're looking for.

For what its worth our Merc 2.2 was temperamental for most of the first season, till I replaced the carb float valve. It seemed to run rich on random occasions, for example sulking all afternoon if you gave it even one pull on full choke when the engine was warm. I eventually decided that the float valve must be intermittently leaking, giving a variable fuel level.

I also dropped the needle down one notch, making it run a little leaner. That's to be expected as on an old motor the needle and valve will be worn.
