I think that I am going to splash out and go for the statesman 330 (subject to sea trial tomorrow)with the Merc D3.6L 180 hp's.
But 2 questions to you all, what is it like getting parts for the mercrusiers and are good Mercrusier engineers easy to come by?
And does anybody have any figures on fuel consumption for a statesman 330 with these engines.

I have these engines in my S34, now one year old and circa 200 hours, and am pretty satisfied. But there doesn't seem to be as wide a service network - and the one time I had a problem things didn't look too good. Regular maintenance can always be planned so isn't a problem, but if you're stuck in the back of beyond the only dealer always seems to be a V-P man!

I've just been through a loop of Mercruser or Volvo for a S37 which I am seeking to buy. (there is a chat titled "Is Volvo worth 10% more" about a week or so ago) I have found that although there is nothing wrong with Mercrusers (the yanks must be manufacturing thousands of them) there is a strong European preference for Volvo. The issue for me was sell-on value with a Merc, they do seem to be difficult to shift. However it also means that you will get a good deal as the buyer. From my investigations you should be able to haggle 10%-20% less than the Volvo counterpart.
I know this was not the question that you asked but you may find it useful
