Hi,

looking at targa 39 next week with two 7.2 litre mercruiser
V8 diesels,chap in the yard says they are D Tronic
about 1997 vintage with bravo 3 legs,is there many
weak spots to look for on a test run.

I Looked at a sunseeker martinique with a pair of these once, broker/agent told me they had loads of money spent on them. When I spoke to the previous owner he told me these engines were an absolute nighmare. Parts were almost non-existant (and that was 3/4 years ago). Some parts were only to be purchased from Canada. He told me that yes he had spent a fortune on these engines but it was'nt on servicing, it was spent on fixing overheating problems etc..

Even the previous owner advised me to stay away from the boat

the boat is a fairline targa 39,1997 approx
with two of these engines and they
are asking sixty five thousand euro
which sounds very cheap

I'd put in an offer on the basis of a boat without engines, if that's what you want.

Are these engines originally fitted bij Fairline? I have never seen a Targa 39 with Mercruisers, even with petrol engines...

I will say this in capital letters, WALK AWAY unless its about 50k, the engines and drives were a total disaster from day 1, no spares left now, they under performed, smoked badly were noisey and like most v8 engines are very thirsty.

Alternatively, buy it if its nice cond, and look for a new engine package and ill re engine it for you.

just had another look at it this evening,
it was sold
new to france in 1997 then man i know in the hotel business

in dublin bought it and spent 30,000euro on the engines,he sold
three years ago and the current owner hardly used it and left it
in the water for two years and didnt replace the annodes as a
result the leg bottoms are all cracked and need replacing<bravo 3> and needs
massive clean,just got the engine cover opened this evening and a
lot of oil in the bilges.Anyway i have decided against it. Then went to look

at cranchi smeraldo36,1995 in good condition man wants 60,000 euro
has kad 42's looks in very good fettle, is this a good price.
