Mercruiser 4.2l 300Hp engines from 1995

Sound right? What sort of engines would these be? Same block as the 200/220/250 units or a bigger/different engine altogether?

Sounds a bit early, but then what do I know, 4.2 litre block as are mine. EBY had A boat like ours with these, they proved troublesome re- electrics, which is why Nick suggested I go for the same set up with old fashioned injection, 230 HP but adequate even with all the junk I carry about. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Mercruiser 7.2l 270Hp engines from 1995

Hmm, had a look at the original spec sheet from the builder (aint the web wonderful) and they list the high power option as 7.2 litre 270 Hp Mercruisers - so perhaps a little lack of knowlege from the broker.


So perhaps the engines are 7.2l mercruisers???

I have the 4.2L 300 hp (2004)
I recommend without reservation
Fantastic engines
(touch wood)
smoke free
smooth
rev to 3900
economic at 3300 rpm
very clean, no black soot on stern even when rough.

count the cylinders.

6 in line it's been re engined

V8 and it's a big block 7.2L.

1995......Make sure the broker has engine model correct. In 95 it was the Mercruiser 7.3 D-Tronic at 300 Hp by Navistar. This was a complete nail and when the VM 4.2 was available at 300 Hp they dropped they dropped it like a brick.

Generally dealer defend products to the hilt even if they are little dodgy, speak to any Mercuiser dealer, not a good word for the engine.

Ford in the U.S. are locked in big $$ litigation with Navistar over the engine. It is utter junk.
