mercruiser 300HP D-Tronic WRONG ECM

I dont work for cummins or any marine related company.

You are angry with several companies but the one that helped you out get the mucky end of the stick .

Cummins have had a fantastic support net work and customer relations have an excellent reputation .

The way I understand the relationship was that Mercruiser approached cummins in order to benefit from their excellent customer relations and support net work.

It would appear that a mercruiser dealer or brunswick have let you down, cummins have sorted it out despite not being involved in your sale and yet you still call them evil

I prefer not to tell you my company as to be honest I could do without customers like you.

I cant understand why you think you know exactly what happened? YOU did not have to deal with the issue, while you personally may have had plesureable dealings with Cummins that doesnt mean everyone else has. As for buying parts yes no problem, as for trying to get a service engineer out to the boat No chance as none of the Cummins service engineers would travel the distance, and believe me I tried, I had to deal with with area managers who couldnt be bothered to return my calls nor emails, in fact no one in the UK could be bothered, I ended up dealing personally with head of operations in Europe, as for being angry, Im not angry, I just personally had a bad time in dealing with them, dont assume anything, and as for your company, I dont care, with assumptions such as yours I wouldnt want to give you my trade anyway.

All that being said, happy boating

I would like to add that I have had many dealings with Cummins at all levels from the engineers to management and have been looked after exceptionally well, also the parts service is excellent.
I do think that one day they will take the lead from Volvo as the QSB especially is a far superior engine to the D6, then you have the ZEUS, remember the comparison in MBY?

The dealings I have had with them have been incredibly generous.
Wetspot says he had a warranty with the mercruiser dealer that sold him the parts . He goes on to say cummins solved the problem but he calls cummins eveil, he seems to have lost sight of just who he has been dealing with.

Many mercruiser agents lost the dealership when cummins took over, this was due to many mercruiser agents simply didnt have a firm grasp of the diesel range , obviously some agents did and were reappointed cummins agents.
Other mercruiser agents were aloud to retain mercury agencies where they could sell outboards up to 10 hp, some still advertised as mercruiser agents but were very capable of the cockup wetspot endured.
It would be very interesting to know just who the supposed mercruiser agent was, I bet they dont feature on the cummins website as authorised !

Further I deduce Mercruiser sold this engine, replaced it under warranty, then it would have to undergo quarantine where it sits at the back of a workshop and if no one claims or mentions the salvage again the mercruiser dealer can re sell the broken engine for salvage, I remember a post on here or perhaps a USA boat diesel forum where someone was asking why a 250 ecu was cheaper than a 300 ecu when they were the same.

I believe wetspot is right to be angry at someone but suspect the culprit who put the box of pup parts together would be a better target than cummins .

DAKA you apear to be assuming again, Cummins did not solve the problem, I personally identified the parts lists were incorrect, bellow is the las email I recieved from Cummins

Mr XXXXXX,

This is in follow up to our phone conversation and , again, wish to express our regret for the problems and delays you have experienced .
Further to the ECM analysis made by the supplier I have now received their confirmation and are effectively 250 hp rated units .

Even tough the technical problems have been rectified and the powerpackage is now performing to your expectations , your satisfaction is important to us .
Given the circumstances we are offering to reimburse as a goodwill the ECM you purchased thru Cummins UK .

Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention and appreciate the opportunity to restore your satisfaction with our products.
Best wishes for many hours of enjoyable boating.

Sincerely,

xxxxxxxxxxxx

this was after more than 2 years !!!!

As I said I think you are getting mixed up with the original supplier and the current company who has not only helped you out but sent such a nice reply accompanied with cash ???

is this a previous quote of yours when you state Barrus (not connected to cummins) supplied the ECU ?

Looks like I found the problem!!

not only was I supplied a dodgy ECM by EP Barrus UK (UK Mercruiser importer at the time) but also a dodgy MAP/AIT sensor as well.
It all makes sense now, these parts were only delivered the week Barrus Ceased with the diesels as Cummins took over, and it looks like I was sent the faulty parts they had left on the shelf!

I am very pleased you have a great boat/engine outfit.
I wish you many years of trouble free boating, you deserve that now.

We make decisions in life such as buying a small new boat or buying a secondhand bigger one .

We can buy a bargain from someone who is skint and run the risk of getting his mortgage too.

As many dont want to take risk the gambles are cheap but every now and then you will get stung and you shouldnt come on an open forum and bleat about your issues without posting the full facts and getting the company names right of just where the fault lies.
