response to subject regarding merc 3.0 mpi.
new engine out soon uprated 3.0L kicks out 150 hp.
Revised intake/exhaust manifold system designed by Porsche engineer. Base block stays the same.
Also all 2005 carb models are now turn key start. No more throttle pumping. There are some trick electric motor on carb where the choke used to be. Had 2 engines thru with this and scarily it works

About time to. The extra few horses no doubt useful, but main benefits have got be potentially, better tick over, improved response and starting. Probably more fuel efficient as well. The old carb. way oiut of date.

Upgrading existing engines not economically viable, I guess. I wonder if there will be third party upgrades.

The carb will be staying for a while because of cost. The engine can be sold bobtail to fit existing packages but would probably cheaper to replace as complete package. The engine is going to cost a bit more but justifing the price. The old 3.0L is not that bad on fuel but agreed the general running and pick up is going to hugely better.
