I have always seen the Mer products, especially the polish, being demonstrated at shows, but never got any, I don't know if anyone on here has used it. This time at the SBS I felt sorry for the guy as it was quiet and bought a 1 ltr of the polish from him, boy does it work or what!! I have put three coats on a car and it is like glass, very impressive, I also did the alloy wheels and they are very shiney. I was told that it can be used for boats, but not to put it on decks as it can be very slippy, I will make sure that I put three or four coats on my new boat before I even use it. It is a lot cheaper than the Autoglym which I use normaly, I think the Mer cost £9.95 for the litre at the show, so if you see it I can recommend it for cars if you want them shiney.

Mer is the best polish on the market,
has been for years,
just dont make the mistake of covering the whole car / boat in it ,
youll be there for days trying to polish it off.
one thing that baffles me though.....
What was the third shepherd thinking taking a tub of it to the baby jesus ???

I've used Mer on my cars for the last 15 years: it's excellent but I find it has to be applied in smallish areas before it gets a chance to dry, when it becomes too hard to polish off.
Glad to hear it works just as well on boats.
Cheers

I have used MER on my hull for about 10 years. When you come out of the water and have washed off, apply a liberal coat of MER but dont polish off. That will then remain on the hull until you are nearly ready to go back into the water, then apply some more and then rub off. I use an angle polisher (= angle grinder at a much slower speed). Stand back and admire the finish!!

My boat will remain in the water over the winter, is it a good idea to apply the polish all over the boat above the waterline, and leave in a haze for the hole winter?

Will it then come of okay by hand at the start of the season?, as i don,t like using electric polishing tools.

Is this the best way to leave the boat lying over the winter?

Never tried it on a boat but it seems like a reasonable plan. I found that on my cars if I allow the Mer to harden, the only way to get a polished finish is to reapply the wax all over again. Logically, it should work the same way on a boat and provide some protection over winter....

Wash off the dried on MER with car shampoo and water then dry.Lots easier than applying all that blimming polish again.

I don't think Mer is any good on a boat. Doesn't last (loses water beading in a couple of weeks) and is too hard to polish off. Bird poo sticks fast to it, too. Test on polishes in this month's which for those who subscribe.

Bit of an old thread now, but for non Mer users, you are missing out!

Ive used it for years and its brilliant for removing those black streaky run off water marks on fibre glass gel. Its the only product Ive found that cleans and polishes at the same time.

Well recommended

I go along with Elessar - Tried it as a polish on my last boat. I was very disappointed. I now use a good quality polish once a year with a mechanical polisher and wash the boat weekly with "Boat wash". Works a treat and my boat is in the water 50 weeks of the year.
