Hi Guys,

I will be cruising from Menorca to the Costa Del Sol over the summer in a 60ft Motorboat with roughly 1.8m draught.

Any suggestions on ports or marinas to stop at and more importantly ones to avoid. We're looking at roughly 3 to 4 weeks for the journey so it wont be a race we just want to catch any of the interesting points of interest along the way.

Obvious route we'll be taking is Menorca - Mallorca - Ibiza to mainland then coastal hop along towards Gibraltar.

Cheers guys

The obvious first point on Mallorca is Alcudia or Pollensa. Both nice, personally I like Alcudia but most folks seem to prefer Pollensa. You could head straight for the nicest marina in Mallorca which is Cala D'Or (but I would say that wouldn't I :) )

I did the trip in reverse to St Eululia (I think that is how you spell it) in Ibiza from Gandia. Don't go to Gandia. I believe that Denia is much nicer.

There ends the limit of my knowledge. I am sure others will be along with further advice.

Hello Ian, fancy meeting you here!

Anyhow, I'd do the Mallorca in a few hops if you're not in a rush...

Menorca to Puerto Pollensa
PP to Port Soller
Soller to Andratx

...then on Ibiza working your way anti clockwise round, stopping at Ibiza Old Town for a night or two.

I'm almost tempted to offer to crew!

Pete,

If you're good at fitting signage you're more than welcome! Joking aside, I'm sure we'll catch up at Sotogrande later in the year.

Thanks also to PEJ for your comments too.

I don't know the coastline well between Denia and Malaga so that's what I'm looking for information on, any suggestions greatly appreciated,

Ian

We had a season in Denia with our boat. Not the most interesting coastline in either direction although Denia marina itself is nice. What I would say is that if youre cruising south from Denia along the coast try to do it as early in the day as possible. The prevailing wind in the area tends to be an onshore easterly which then gets boosted in the afternoons by the seabreeze effect which can kick up quite a stiff chop and if youre close to the rocky shore the waves get reflected back which means that the sea can get quite nasty. Also there are no really sheltered anchorages between Denia and Calpe which get you out of that easterly chop. Our favourite port to visit along that coast was Moraira. Pleasant stop for a day or 2

We have done the trip 1st going down to Gib and then back the following season.

The places already mentioned are great and agree the coast line is a bit boring, the marina and towns are great we did

Moria, Calpe, Altea some great restaurants in Albir very close, then Alicante, you could do Torrveja but we did La Manga and although very quite it was great to do it for the experience and the inner water way.

We then went on to Mazron which has a small marina in the town and it was excellent.
We then stopped of at Almerimar as there is no other marinas that will take your size boat.
We then stoped in Benalmadena, Port Banus my favourite just for the atmosphere, Estopona and although we did Sotogrande would not recommend it!
We then went straight to Gib from there.
Message me if you want some more details and sorry about the spelling of the Spanish towns.

Thanks Mike, good point about the winds.

Yep
About 4 years ago, we did a run to Denia from Sant Carles.
Decided to do a pootle for most of the way.
And, yes, late afternoon, the wind (and swell) kicked in - on the nose.
Making tge last 17 miles into Denia VERY uncomfortable.

Denia is nice but I think I prefer Santa Eulalia.
However Santa Eulalia is probably on the wrong side of Ibiza for your trip.
San Antonio probably for fuel.

Thanks Guy's,

The mainland coast seems to lack any quality places to stop, I think we'll end up biting the bullet and just do a few long trips along the coastline and minimise the stops.

What are the thoughts of stopping in Ibiza? is it worth going to any marinas or just anchor for a night or two and then head to Denia?

Cartagena is a good stop.
I've only stopped for an overnight/fuel but the old town is supposed to be really interesting
