Eventually after hours of frustration got Memory Map to work with the inbuilt GPS
on my PDA but I'm still not sure if its working correctly. Can anyone advise if the position curser only shows when the correct chart for the location is loaded.
Thanks in advance.
Ian

The cursor shows even if it is outside the current area of the displayed map. So if you zoom out to a scale that would include your GPS position in the displayed area, but outside the detail of the displayed map you get the cursor in a "white" area bounded by the boundary of the other maps. You then can select a suitable map from one or more at the location.

Mike ,
Thanks for the reply, could you answer another question please.Should the curser show on the screen as soon as the programme is opened ?
Thanks
Ian

The cursor will appear when the gps has derived your position, in red. If it has an old position ie gps position lost the cursor appears grey...... that's how it appears on mine !

And on mine the grey position cursor from the last location soon disappears if it doesn't get a position from the GPS. If you had it working but now not, make sure you don't have any other application using the GPS input at the same time, as I don't think two can co-exist of one input without some special sharing utility (as I remember).

I aasume you have the memory map sea charts, are they any good? and what areas are in the package?
I have used memory map OS stuff and it's superb mapping but I'm just loathed to shell out on the marine stuff without seeing it in action.
Cheers.

Re: Memory map & PDA

The navigation charts come from Maptech but can be purchased through Memory-map We find them excellent and have used them for 5 years of the rocky west coast of Scoptland. They are identical to admirality charts and a full pack of all UK and Ireland costs £95 If you want to know more PM me

One feature I really like with Memory Map is being able to use your own paper charts/maps - just scan them as image(s) then import abd calibrate them by clicking a few locations (e.g. lat/long intersections) entering corresponding lat/long and you're done. You If you scanned several pieces or charts you can also merge them into one map/chart.

I have the chart pack for the West fo Scotland and agreed it excellent.
One issue I have with the whole PDA thing is poor daylight screen visibility.
Has anyone got a good daylight visible screen. I have my Matptech software running on an O2 XDA Mini smartphone,
but the display is useless outside, in the cockpit.
