I know it was hot this weekend but just got back from the beach at Newtown and discovered the plastic cover on the Cobb is deformed and leans in towards the grill and most surprised to find that the underside of the base was all melted and actually had beach gravel melted into it.

Looks like it has been in a fire!

I used coconut Cobb barbecue fuel, cooked regular items and all the cooking was done in an hour, anyone else had any problems? Is it global warming, Cobb is approx 4 yrs old

I am reasonably confident it was not sat next to any pyromaniacs

Still was a great bit of kit , until now,

The Cobb needs a draught between the inner fire chamber and outer skin to cool it.
I imagine that putting it in gravel blocked the cooling air vents causing it to overheat. May be safer to use a Cobb on a flat surface.

The new Cobbs have a steel mesh for the outer cover so they should be better.

However, if I put the lid back on when I have finished cooking I find that the lid gets a little too hot. The solution is simply to leave the lid off when the charcoal is still buring but cooking is complete.

Well you could be right, I have used it for a while and sat it carefully on the cockpit table and occasionally on the beach and yet have never had a problem.

Beware boys and girls if Bluechip is correct then I superheated the beast

Didn't make my pork cook any quicker ironically!
