Hi I really struggling to take apart my meissner 23sta winches they need badly to be greased, I know that to disassemble other makes is quite simple but hire I'm stake. Particularly I cant lift up central spindle there is not provided any pin or spring washer, someone suggested that I should after lifting the drum put back self tailer and use piece of timber an hammer tray to unscrew top part, well I trayed that and only managed to get half turn an everything get really hard and I canot even turn spindle myth winch handle any more, so I screw it back with hammer again and helpfully winch is steel working
I really need to put same grease to central spindle because now it is quite hard to turn
Has anybody any experience myth this winches
I will appreciate any help
Thanks
Hire is picture of similar

There are generally two ways of taking a winch apart depending on the make. Lewmars and the like have a screw in the top accessed through the winch handle hole. Once this is out, the self tailing arm and the drum can be removed.
Gibb winches have a split spring which is removed using a small screwdriver. The self tailing arm, which is on a screw thread, is removed by tapping it gently in a counter clockwise direction using a rubber mallet or a hammer and wooden block.
It sounds like yours is like a Gibb - try tapping it a bit harder.

I would guess it's just a tool with pegs that fit into the top cap of the winch giving enough grip to unscrew the cap. Similar to the Lewmar Ocean winches.
A photo of the winch may give some clues as to dismantling the top.

Thanks for input
But
I managed to take out drum, only have difficulties with taking up central spindle, it is really puzzling because there is no, any hex key in side handle hole or split spring or anything
J just put back selftalling arm on top and managed using hammer to half turn collar at the top of central spindle and mechanism became to be really stuck and hard to turn, so I back of
Is anybody up there with experience with MEISSNER winches ?

I had one apart a couple of years ago, as you have discovered you give the self tailer a whack and it unscrews letting you get the drum off, but unfortunately i cant remember anymore than that, i am sure the rest was straight forward, it was the same winch as yours so a photo of the base may jog my memory.

Sorry, still got no experience with these winches but another post on the above mentioned thread says "Simply pry up on the roll pins in the slots and the pins will slide up and out then the gears will slide out. The driveshaft will also just pull out. Keep track of the spacers. "
It sounds like the lower gears are retaining the centre spindle.
