Medway Swan Upping. 2022.

As most should be aware the The Medway, an ancient and venerable waterway, mentioned in the Domesday Book has its very own swans and a survey cruise is being held on Saturday 11th of June to ascertain numbers.
The Mayor of Maidstone is being transported by local boat clubs to beat his bounds which extend down to the Hawkwood Stone on the tidal part of the Medway.
Rochester Cruising Club boats will be meeting the Mayor at the boundary with some continuing back up river for refreshments at Wateringbury.

Off down river with couple of Mayors and a Swan Master to beat the bounds and count the swans.

Coming back up through the lock for refreshments in Maidstone Town Centre and then on up to Wateringbury for a Mayorall knees up.

Excellent time had by by all.
Unfortunately somebody had built this a little while previously preventing Ballerina from going up stream, so we went up by train.

Do they only count the swans then, rather than Upping them, as they do on the Thames?

Could be .......have always regarded the 30DS as cracking practical boat and the design virtually timeless.
