B1 had decided to up sticks and seek pastures new for the coming season,so early Sunday saw his trusty Pedro depart from Bates and head on upriver.
Having made sure that nothing had been left behind(including that bit of manky string securing his boat to the finger berth)we left and turned err...left.

You will notice in the last photograph that the berths adjacent have been cleared for some reason.
 
What about the picture of you lot taking a swim when leaving the boat? I only ask as apart from a bow warp it appears to be moored with a central breast rope from a stanchion base crossing the finger and between your exit off the deck and dry land.

Or was the camera too wet to work?

Seriously though, a nice boat and some nice pics!
 
So Tony, you now need to start fitting in with the natives, that means you need to spend all weekend polishing the boat and the fenders as well to keep up with the neighbours.

Looks like Mikey has arranged a good spot on B pier for you, HAS he measured your length yet? (Boat that is...)

The short spring to which you refer is actually secured to the pontoon cleat nearest the boat. The picture is misleading as the line coincides with a split in the pontoon decking.

With hindsight, I would have been better securing the spring from the deck cleat midships to the cleat at the head of the pontoon.

There is also a stern line, caringly secured by Oldgit but somewhat obscured by the pontoon furniture.

I have some gems of information to impart but will do so on a seperate thread.

Suffice to say it was a superb day for the trip - such weather in March is rare and the river was in a kindly state of mind albeit with a couple of knots of current to contend with in some stretches.

We did meet quite a lot of rowers though...... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Actually, although Oldgit's acount of proceedings is quite accurate (for him!) the bit about me setting off to give the lockie an ear bashing is a rather scurrillous accusation.

Lockies were present, attentive and all one could wish for at Chertsey, Penton Hook and Bell Weir (do wish Dave would smile occasionally though /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) but we were held up a little at Old Windsor while the lockie dealt with some issue or other with a boat in the lock. I now realsie that Fred encouraged me to walk up to see what was happening just so that he could take that picture and do a Daily Mail type take on the reality!

Lockies were not present at Romney or Boveney but both locks had been left 'in our favour' and we entertained the gongoozlers witha fine display of seasoned competency.

NOTE: The instructions on the pedestals at Boveney could do with being in a slightly easier place to read. Below the wheel and down to ground level is a bit difficult for us oldies. Also, they referred to watching green lights flash etc but if there were any they need fixing !!!
 
Would have popped round to welcome you but was busy with a little plumbing issue at home.

Was thinking of boats though - had a very small gap to access the pipes I was working on and decided a marine engineer would have been useful as they seem good at getting into small spaces.

Hopefully bringing Unwinder back to Bray this weekend, so will pop round and say hello then if you are around.
