Am seriously considering buying a flat on the Eslanade in Rochester to be closer to the water. So please whats the cruising like up and down the Medway?where do you go on a day out/weekend on the sea?
Also which are the best marinas.Had a quick chat with the Rochester Cruising Club but there was a waiting list for membership.

Robin,
Gillingham Marina is nice. Or for an interesting night out you could visit Di and Sharky on the Inner Dowsing Light vessel at Medway Bridge Marina. Good disco and nice grub. Its only a short sea trip to Burnham or Ramsgate, both are great for a few nights away.
Good luck

Also try Chatham Maritime Marina brand new facilities friendly staff and 24 hour access.

"The Med is calling me"

Don't forget Queenborough.

An overnight stop on the concrete barge is a must. Don't moor on the outside (main channel side), the coaster/ dredger that regularly goes past sometimes squashes boats.

Don't moor on the very convenient floating pontoons linked to the shore, 'cos the friendly natives will tell you it's only for short stay. (funny, when I was ther a fishing boat spent all night there).

There are/ were some yellow visitor buoys, but other than convenience whilst on passage to somewhere else or a bolt hole for bad weather, I can't think of any reason to stop there.

That should get the Medway boys going! Persuade me it's wonderful.

Ooh.

Medway bridge is one of my favourite gently rotting marinas. The pontoons have nice springy softwood all spaced apaprt so they need fewer of them, making it really intersting for anyone with small feet. Quite different from Gillinham aka The Brickyard, with ongoing development which won't stop for as long as there are brickworks in the world. But both of these places are recommended to leave the boat and get on the M2 and then M25 to gatwick and go somewhere nice

I helped Clive Neigbour (see below) to take his Broom Crown down to Chatham Maritime Marina in July and it must be really brill down there 'cos since then he's already been out to Spain and bought a place there and now he's going to sell the Broom and buy something much posher.
Mind you, he did introduce me to Tsunamis Navigator which is the dogs wotsits and I finished up with a Westie pup cos his mate's got one and it licked me on the way back in the car and swmbo said she wanted another dog so I said ok if its one of those so she said great if I paid for it so I did (cost more than a bloody volvo service!) so now I get anything I want for the boat cos I got lots of brownie points so all becos went down the Medway with Clive.

Never ever refer to it in conversation as the Medway. Refer to it as the 'MED' it impresses the hell out of landlubbers when they say "what did you do last weekend" and you reply "cruising my yacht on the Med"
