The dream is taking a step forward, chance of a couple of Balearic berths with similar annual charges to Windermere and reasonable quote for shipping.

Known costs therefore seem affordable but what about the unknown. What could give me a nasty surprise. Antifouling or bottom cleaning for instance. Servicing costs.

Also what equipment should I have on board for safe coastal hopping, which is all I want to do. Would be grateful for the advice of those who have been there and done that.

Thanks

The only extra thing I bought when tranferring to the Med (and I should have had it in the UK) was a life raft. I had the perception before that my inflatable tender was good enough. You may also think of an extra drinks fridge and a Bimini for the sun if you don't already have one or similar.

Have the bimini, cant afford the aircon - will use TCMs recommendations for keeping the light/heat out of the cabin and sweat.

Passarelle - Cant afford hydraulic one and not sure how to store manual one - how do others do it

Plank of wood is fine. You just need some means of getting off the back of the boat - there are no finger pontoons so you are fender to fender with two boats on either side. On a charter in palma when we rented a 30-footer we used a scaffolding board/plank wiv holes drilled into it so can lash it to the boat for a step ashore, and lash to fwd deck at sea. Cheap, and works. Buy/liberate on of these prior to boat shipping.

With no airco it will be hot - so you will want to go out and anchor. A rear kedge anchor is good for lining up the rear so your boat points out from the sea into the open sea (where the waves come from er..) which minimises rolling.

It is not a bad idea to have a sort of mega cover to go over the whole boat, cos it wil get covered in bird crap and/or carfumes and or airplane whatever.

If space, a dehumidifier set to run over the winter. If not, buy a load of wd 40 beforehand ready to splat around before winter, else boat get get damp. Or forget this if boat is already a bit rusty.

Yes, for no airco, not a bad idea to get some means of blocking light from above. Foil over the skylights and consider getting some lagging above the headlining, needs to be self-adhesive, halyard.co.uk. which all boat should have but don't much so wirr wirr aircon all day.

oh, and you will need some nice clothes to go to restaurants. Yes, restaurants! not like the chips and chicken in ambleside.

Also, you might want to silver sunglasses for buying dearest swmbo a nice beach wrap. Anchor off in blue 28 degrees sea at Es Trenc, mind the reef, and go ashore (need dinghy) and the nice girlie will be showing all the wraps and effectively erm do a total or partial strip show to demo the different coloured wraps. I liked the other one, No, erm, maybe put the other one back on, um, no praps the orange coloured one after all put that one on...

The key items for the med that we used was an Ice Box...save battery power on two fridges, Inflatable and engine to get to those beach bars and for safety, two anchors and a Sea anchor. Apart from that just pack the sunscreen!

I will be staying on Windermere this summer as new boat is now too big to trail! Which of the islands are you looking at?

Mine is fixed (15mm pin in a hole) to the back 'step' and folds in two to be strapped to the back rail. You could take it off and on but then where do you put it?
I'll take a photo when next on the boat because this one has come up a few times
