Hi All,

following a thread in Re:SSB by demonboy their was mention of a Med Net.
I was laid low last week with heavy cold and was flicking throu old copies of sailing mags
and found this snippet in Elaine Bunting Crusing Log Column from Yachting World.

Mediterranean Cruiser's Net run from 1st April to 31 October by Bill and Jean Cote from
thier boat Soleil Sans Fin. Net is daily at 05.30 UTC on 8122kHz.

We will just have to wait and see if it starts up on 1st April.

On the Italian net they speak Italian!! I called in once in Italian, and they responded in English.
They were really helpful.but my call in occupied about 10 mins, where as the normal contact over and back lasted 2/3 mins

I was embarresed by their willingness to give my the meteo in English and advice for my crusing area, plus a contact that called me on the VHF and invited me to Lunch at his home after having drinks on his boat that was not far from me!

A short call and then a week of social gathering, when i invited 6 people id met to lunch i ended up cooking for 20+ and before that got going the venue was moved to a far bigger boat on which we could all sit down, i bought the meat and some wine and all the rest came from others gardens caves,at the end they stocked my boat with conserve wine and local cheeses!!!!

Call into the Italian net at your own risk!!

Glad to be off help! I have slowly be gathering data for most areas of the world, but was not really planning on a visit to the med, so have little data.
