Hi there, my partner and I are strongly considering chartering somewhere in the Med next year, and would appreciate any tips on:

location or prices that you all might have.

I started to look on a couple of Google Search result sites, but to be honest, did not find what I was looking for.

When I was avidly scuba diving I booked a holiday in Kenya through an operator, only to find, when we arrived, that we could have saved about 50% on the cost by booking direct.

DOH!! Don't want to do that again!: eek:

Big area, the Mediterranean!

For a broad brush picture of cruising areas in the West Med, Adriatic, Greece and Turkey, have a look at the Cruising Association (CA) web site, "Cruise Info" tab: http://www.cruising.org.uk/cruising_information/cruising_guides/med . Pages for the areas mentioned are publicly available. Pages giving far more detail are only available to members.

However, my own web site gives detail for the Balearics, Corsica & Sardinia and Greece. It's a far more amateur production though!

Thanks Jim.
I know this must be obvious stuff to some, but we all have to start somewhere, and I don't want to waste time or money

Regards Dave

Hi Dave x25dave and Jim,

What comes to mind immediately is Majorca ( Mallorca) as it is cooler in summer than the mainland. An attractive island with many ports of call. Others will recommend a starting point of their choice, but most coasts offer a decent cruising area. If so inclined a visit to Menorca is possible in settled conditions. The north of Majorca is good for harbours too.

I have not ever chartered just been on own 36ft AWB. but always found berthing costs reasonable on the municipal quays.Although Elba is equally blessed with natural harbours or maybe more so, access by air is probably more convoluted.

Greece Turkey, Croatia both offer many delights and many operators exist to satisfy demand.Very near Rome Leonardo Airport (10 Mins) is Porto Turistico di Roma where a Google will reveal charter operators.Thence to Monte Argentario area and off to Elba is a nice compact cruise. Now I can't remember what the question was!

Good sailing and boating to all!

We've been to Greece many times, North & South Ionian and the Pelepponese and had great times, Turkey from Fethiye was a bit more rural if that's what you want and this year, next month, we're returning to Croatia from Dubrovnik for the 3rd time, BA and ash permitting.

We've used Neilson in Greece and Nautilus in all locations and had no major problems, although a few minor niggles with Neilson on occasion but not enough to stop using them.

Don't go to Greece, esp ionian in July and particularly august as it gets very busy and winds are v light mainly. May/June or September are the best times, we've found.
