Pantaenius has just informed me that they are not renewing annual 'single trip' policies (emergency medical and repatriation insurance) as they have new underwriters!

Does anyone know of any other scheme that offers this kind of cover for liveaboards...at an affordable price?

Bishops Skinner offer something similar but at more than 50% increase in premium compared to Pantaenius.

Have a look at Insure and go.

I use them for annual multi-trip, the cover whilst sailing out of sight of land is better than anyone else I've found. The medical and repatriation cover for my parents year long trip to the Caribbean came to ~£500 for both of them (63/65 years young).

I have no connection with the company save for being a happy customer. (p.s. I haven't tried to claim though).

Dave.

Have a look at Endsleigh who we will be using shortly. They do backpackers insurance which seems to work if you choose the policy that allows you to go sailing. They limit it to coastal waters though, so no mid-Atlantic rescues.

There have been quite a few similar topics which I searched through when I was looking for insurance. Try a search Insurance or medical insurance.

Coincidence?

The company that has in the past provided us with health insurance, Club Direct, also told us a couple of days ago they would not renew "as the underwriters are no longer interested in this market". They've made a mint off us over the years - we've never claimed.

If you do a search as Mocruising suggests, it throws up diminishingly few names. There are still plenty, like Club Direct and Endsleigh that offer multi-trips and coastal sailing while on holiday, but back off once they realise ocean cruising is involved - even if you offer to exclude Air-Sea rescue and other costs while away from land.

Many annual holiday insurance policies offer up to 90 days in any one trip and have exclusions like scuba diving, para gliding etc but not sailing.... I used one of these and made a succesful claim - £7000 worth. I am not sure if that was luck or simply that I did not ask the question and they did no specifically exclude off shore sailing.

Other than policies costing 10- 12 grand a year I believe there is no policy in existance that specifically covers folks Blue Water Cruising - 365 days a year 24/7 - if there is I would love to hear about it
