I am in La Rochelle on the West Coast - truth is I have not tried to get Radio 4 - I listen to the world service in the boat and I have to confess my wife (who is French) prefers to watch UK tv so the news comes from bbc/itv... Bit sad! Will set sail again next spring.......
Where are you? Did you go to Corfu - I had some good times in that smelly old harbour near the town..

Im in StTropez, only becouse ALL the other ports are FULL in the med,but i bought a mooring some years ago, and also have a winter place in the public port,
Im just looking around for a camping car a small one that i can visit corfu to see freinds that sail there all year, and look again at the black sea and Turkish med coast. when we last sailed in the Black sea we had a WONDERFUL time, but some charter companies were setting up--that normaly changes things a lot!!
I also want to look at Spain again we were there 4years ago and it was quite crowded and for the last two years weve been meeting more and more boats that left Spain as there are almost no places left or very expensive!! Im going with a camping car as it will be quicker and i dont want to spend another winter at anchor.

The last few winters at anchor or anchored in aport were WONDERFUL but there are still many storms that have me praying my anchors hold and wondering what im doing!!

Ive even be thinking about the Caneries but with bricks and morter!!!

The meds become socrowded its not nice anymore and almost all the once free Italian ports now cost around £50 per night!!! even in winter!!!!

Im also looking at other boats to start with one for the French canals,starting next year, i hope my camping car will take me off for Jan and Feb then April and onwards on the canals!!

the ships captain medical book has fairly graphic pix and discriptions of how to inject it into the edges of the wound - I have tried not to venture into details rather leaving it to the book.

If you think this is incorrect then please tell me how you think I should alter it.

your list states lidocaine for subcut AND intravenous use. intravenous use is dangerous. as as anaesthetic this drug should be gien sub cutaneously-always draw back before injecting to make sure you are not in ablood vessel.some preparations are mixed with adrenaline .this reduces bleeding and is very usefulbut must not be injected into an area with a limited bloods supply such as a finger because it may cause arterial spasm and dangerously reduce the blood supply to the finger.May i also suggest this lidocaine gel may be useful as a topical application.ALSO remember that when you inject you may occasionally produce an allergic reaction so give slowly. it might be worth having an injectible antihistamine such as piriton on board[remember the article on killer bees in the carribean].I would also suggest antibiotic eyedrops such as chloramphenicol,rehydration pwders such as diaoralyte.last year at the soton boat show a saline spray for irregation [eyes wounds was demonstrated and seemed agood idea]. Many of us cruisers are getting older and perhaps a urniary catheter might be a good idea if going far[heaven forbid urinary retention in mid atlantic]. As regards dressings sanitory towels /nappies are very useful- very absorbant and cheap also readilly available.Many dressings kits are very expensive for what they are.you can easilly tear up a shirt if you really need triagular bandages. steristrips essential- I remember trying to suture my own gashed leg whilst single handing in biscay.finally prevention is the name of the game. plan ahead regarding immunistions. carry the appropriate malaria prophyllaxis for your area dont rely on chloroquine. in the tropics you will possible come across infections outside my experience but probably worth having an antehelminthic for treating worms /larvea such as vermox . you seem to be surviving quite well on your own . good luck chris
