Med Used Boat Prices

Never come across this additional 5% cost myself. It sounds as if they are simply being , shall we say, a little opportunistic with the buyer!
Find another broker or talk to me.

this is general practice in Ital, 5% brokers comission charged to the buyer + 5% to the seller,
very often its anounced in the add, so you know in advance,
like anything in Italy, you can negociate that with the broker, or agree on a fixed amount,
or agree on extra bonus for the broker if he acheeves a lower price from the seller...

Interesting information and to be honest a new one on me.
I have sold and jointly sold many boats in the Med and Greece in particular and not encountered this issue before.
I will raise the issue with my partner in Greece this afternoon and see what they say, one of them is Chair of the Greek Brokers Association.
I'll report back with my findings.

I have not come across the fee to a seller and purchaser before. My understanding is as a seller you retain a broker to act on your behalf. They market the boat and deal with the paperwork and secure the best deal for you. Charging both sides would seem to be a bit of a conflict. On the flip side of that as a purchaser you could retain a broker to find a boat on your behalf and squeeze the seller on price. With regards to using a UK company to help you purchase a boat in the Med and paying them a fee I would be surprised if there was much of an uptake on that. If you are concerned use a UK based broker that has listings in Europe.

Indeed. IMHO you are correct on all counts.

When I was looking in Italy, I only found one broker that wanted to charge a fee (5% + IVA), against five who didn't.
The one that did was adamant that it was normal and not negotiable. I didn't use him.

very good condition San Lorenzo 70 for well under 200k (Euros!) - now at today's exchange rates that is one hell of a boat for not a lot of money.
If you've got a SL72 for similar money, call me:D:D

Hi Mike,
Ha Ha, we have got a 2009 SL72 with 2x2000 MTU's but as you might well imagine, it is a lot more than the 70 went for.
I will bear you in mind though when it drops and call you;)
