For those in the med and have Pods, how often do you get your boat lifted and the anodes changed? Am thinking if next boat has pods then will need to get lifted twice a year for anode replacement (hopefully not more than that)

Not a bad thing as can also get it cleaned at the same time.

Thanks

A boating mate of mine has an IPS boat (we met after he had bought her, so I didn't have a chance to talk him out of that, you know... :p), and fwiw he only changes anodes yearly.

My Props get a scape every 2weeks .
We can reach with a snorkel or have diving gear .They hang at the back just under the transome -
I think 2x is not enough , bit optimistic ? Especially if boat is left Unattened /unused for even a few weeks .
Can change /replace anodes too with boat in the water .They last a year ,but if one of the prop anode spins off it's easy to replace without a lift .

I can only comment on Volvo IPS drives. Change anodes yearly, use genuine Volvo anodes as the transom anode is aluminium and the exhaust anode is some kind of cast iron alloy. The exhaust anode looks physically the same after a year in the water but when you tap it with a hammer it shatters. If you buy non genuine anode kits the exhaust anode is the wrong material.

The newer IPS boats have the Volvo ACP (Active Corrosion Protection) system. These only have one transom anode that is mounted in the ACP unit. This should not wear unless the batterys are disconnected for a long period of time but the exhaust anodes still need changing.

Easy to change the anodes in the water 1 x 8mm allen key for exhaust anodes and a 17mm socket for transom anode.

As stated by Whitelighter keeping the propellers clean is the problem in the med. The best solution we have found is PropSpeed antifouling. It's the only one that stays on!

Very good :)
LOL, I knew you would have liked that line... :)
Btw, in fairness, he's quite happy with his pods (and even more so his wife, who was shocked to see that my old tub has no joystick, and couldn't believe me when I told her that most boats don't...), and never had any problem with them.
Yet. :p
