Shark

“ [ A white shark off the coast of Imperia? Fishermen are sure of it. The alleged sighting took place offshore when the specimen devoured a swordfish, as can be seen from the photos, which had taken the bait. The crew of the Ilde II fishing boat were engaged in operations when they encountered a 'carcarodon', Carcharodon carcharias, also called the great white shark.

This species is particularly widespread in cold or temperate waters between 11 and 24 ° C, on the coast or offshore. It is particularly present off the southern coasts of Australia, South Africa, California, Mexico, the north-east of the United States and on the Mexican island of Guadalupe, New Zealand. In the Mediterranean Sea, on the other hand, there is a breeding area in the area that includes Sicily, Malta and Tunisia.

The fishermen had the photos viewed by a biologist and the specimen should be 5 meters long by half a ton. We contacted the Coast Guard of Imperia. To date, however, there are no "official" reports or sightings in city waters.]”

Comments under it suggested it happens a lot off Imperia ( Liguria) but a bit like the mayor of Amity in Jaws, the mayors play down it as the tourist season , Covid and the economy etc etc .
There is a deep water shelf about 8/12 miles out and water rises , with fish , prey for the swordfish and there predators ( sharks ) lurk etc .Indeed my Marina has whale watching boat trips which go out there .Hmm ?
I guess the WHOLE gamut of marine ecosystems gets swept up that shelf .

Psst daren’t tell Mrs Porto :).
