Mechanising a Radar Arch

I am looking at buying another Broom which though the Radar arch is already hinged it is not mechanised.
I am looking for a company who could fit it with hydraulics. A powered system not just gas struts. While I know Broom can do the job they want an incredible amount of money to do the job and need the boat taken to there yard.
I would like to find somebody on the South coast or the Thames who would be capable of doing the whole job.
Any ideas or recommendations???

Unless you have the ability to do it yourself and just buy parts I suspect it will be expensive whoever does it although perhaps possible to improve on what Brooms are asking.

Out of interest what model is the boat? We nearly bought a 39kl that had it as a factory option from new at a fairly eye watering price.

I have 18k from the factory in my head? Another thing on retrofits is that if you don’t already have the “pram hood” type arrangement for the canopy you would need to install that as well as far as I know.

We have gas struts and they certainly take a lot of weight off!

It already has the quick release pram-hood canopy.

I worked with a company called Spartec (based in Port Hamble) and together we designed and built a folding radar arch on a Sealine F42, might be worth a call.

Hi. Linden Lewis at Shepperton did the whole job for the previous owner of my Fairline Phantom about 10 years ago. As per other posts I believe it cost around £18k.

Have a look at Linak electric actuators - might be simpler than hydraulics? We use the LA36 series at work for some fairly similar tasks. Just needs power and a simple switch for up and down.

If you get the IC series you can program them for speed and a virtual end position (if none of the available lengths quite match what you need) and you can gang two or more together so that they move simultaneously off one switch. Might need a welder to add some tangs for them to bolt onto (same applies to hydraulics), but after that the wiring and setup is easy DIY work.

Still looking for someone who could do this job.
Besides Brooms I have only found one person who could do this but he is taking on no work on due to illness.

Linak electrical actuators which are more than capable of supplying the parts and that is the route that I will probably go but I need somebody to be able to do the reinforcing and fabrication of the mounts. The rest I can take care of myself.

The arch weighs in excess of 70 kg and even with gas struts is going to be a handful because of the span. Anybody got any more suggestions please.

Also I know of another 450 who wants his done and we could have both boats done at the same time

From memory the LA37 will move two tonnes, and hold nearer ten.

They don't have to take the weight at sea the arch is locked down and unlocked for lowering.

Yes osmotec. Whether you use electric (good ones like linak) or hydraulic you're at £1200 in hardware- much less with cheaper electric actuators that don't talk to each other/move in synch. So this is a £3500 job not £18k.

That's more the figure I am thinking of. If using electric actuators on the exterior of the Arch.
Another couple of £k if fitted inside the arch hidden from view.

Trim tab rams and pump would do the job at not a lot of cost. Depends how much modifying of the mast is required.
