Finally got my new davits on. Minus the wood blocks that hold the dinghy steady.

Dont forget the blocks I said....................You did'nt want the block on the new davits did you.

Next phone call. Wheres the blocks and the special d hooks to lift the dinghy??.......... In the bin with the davits. Ok I'll bring you the D hooks.

What about the blocks.................Well I can put them back on, but they wont look so good because the new davits are a different shape and I will have to bash your SS straps into a different shape, it will look orrible........Well make some new straps then................Big intake of breath. It's special steel. (It's 4 strips 2" wide about 1mm thick and about 1Ft long.)................ Changes conversation.

Look, there were wood blocks on before, there should be back on now. It's part of the insurance job!!.............Um, Um, Um........I need the job writting off then I can collect my insurance money............Yes and I've got a druppy about dinghy!!

Tuther thing, not his fault. The new davits are so low geared, it's a hundred turns on the handle top to bottom. Thats 200 turns between them.

Oh dear, poor MF, sounds like she doesnt have a happy davit.

On the subject of davits, here is some good lateral thinking re designing a pair of rather unorthodox davits for Gludy's cat - http://www.multihulls4us.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2494

That seemed to work very well, and quite clever I thought.

The barbeque looked a bit close to the cockpit cushions though. At least the wind wouldn't blow out the flame so easily.

think I would rather have the previous davits, that if you forgot to lift the whatever, would have your wrist off. Or the 7000 turns now (without apparent risk) to wind the dinghy up or down. I'm sure there's a degree course on operating what Gludy has for his Davits.

Haydn

I have an idea. You know Henry is loyal, hardworking ,and highly motivated....

With a bit of improvisation, you could have the davits dog-powered, oh, and while he's there, add a generator.

hlb nearly did his own new davits in today, set off at a great speed in the marina to shouts of STOP, STOP by a fast passing raggie. No damage done, but today was our first day out.

A voice from the past!

"The barbeque looked a bit close to the cockpit cushions though. At least the wind wouldn't blow out the flame so easily."

The barbeque arm swivels out doing a full 360 degrees as does the barbeque itself swivel - so no problem!!

Just a bit of lateral thinking.......

Fit the lifting D rings lower on the tubes which may make the blocks obsolete, use a tight rope between the D rings which again lowers the lifting point.

Use mini fenders held on the davit arm with shock cord instead of blocks, cause zero damage/rust stains too.

Or..... just sell the boat :D
