MDL Woolverstone

Nothing is cheap at Shotley, that's its USP, keeps the riff raff out.

You've got a bite:

My boat is definitely at the riff-raff end of the spectrum being smallish, battered and lived-aboard most of the time. They are always friendly and courteous.
Shotley charged me £140 for lift out, jetwash, 1 week hard standing, including unlimited electricity and hot baths, and crane back in, with gladly given help and advice. I think that's cheap and I couldn't improve on it.
There was a mix-up with my electricity a few days ago and they instantly gave me a discount, making it a very cheap four nights stay.

And diesel seems to be the cheapest in the area...no wonder they are quite full!
No connection etc, Jerry

...However to get back to HSE, I thought that only applied to the employees?

Oh yes Hahaha...and where did you get that idea?

So if you fall off an unlit pontoon, trip over something left by the yard, fall down an unsecured ladder or do all manner of foolish things that the public seem to be able to do to themselves, I take it you'll absolve the yard of any responsibility because the HSE only applied to staff.

No...of course not, and within reason I'm sure you'll push it to see what you can get...Sorry not 'you' personally, 'you' as in everyone.

Well said. They are currently offering free berthing to any new boats until expiry of your existing contract elsewhere up to Apr 2014, provided you sign up for balance of year berthing in 2014.

Don't listen to Kipper, he hasn't forgiven Shotley for him hitting a marked wreck in the river outside Shotley, the one with the east cardinal mark next to it.

Are Shotley also offering free visitor's nights in the same way Burnham Yacht Harbour?

I say Stork old chap that's a bit aggressive, this is the ECF not scuttlebut! My post was intended as humorous, the riff raff I was referring to was me and the Kipper; I have fond memories of Shotley, they chased after and retrieved our dog when he ran after a squirrel just as we were in mid lock.

The problem with Shotley and the Ipswich marinas is the grief of locking in and back out again. Going to Fox's did cross my mind but the last time we ventured there I was unable to raise the HM.

We did go up to Foxs for fuel last Saturday - Couldn't get the HM on either of the published phone numbers, but raised him on Channel 80, before we ventured up there. I don't have the invoice to hand but from memory I think we paid about £1.28 after the 60/40 split.

So unofficially we have:

Tidemill £1.42 (August price, thanks Lazy Kipper)
Levington £1.36
Fox's £1.28
Titchmarsh £1.22
Shotley £1.19
Burnham YH £1.15 (August price)
Woolverstone £1.11 (August price, non-MDL berth holder, interesting to see the price when they resume supply)
Chatham MDL same price as Woolverstone
Neptune ?
Haven ?
Granary?

Locking isn't too much grief if it saves more than a few quid. Can anybody fill in the missing prices? I know there is a fuel price forum but it isn't as active as ECF.

I have seen an almanac reference to fuel at Felixstowe Ferry Boatyard but have never seen a fuel installation there; does anybody know?

October price at Granary? I'm not sure if we have diesel, I'll have to ask Mel. And we don't have a lock, but you do have to wait until the tide reaches to last knot on the post before you can get out, coming back in I reckon if I don't run aground at the black and yellow barge then I'm probably OK.

Filled up at Titchmarsh a couple of weeks ago. The advertised price was £1.22 but as I obtained almost 900 litres I got it a few pence cheaper!

It has Soltron or Startron or Salty-Star-Tron or something, it's lovely fuel and a fetching shade of patriotic red.

Fox`s fuel is clean from a plastic tank & i am told has an additive to stop "The Bug"

According to JJ, it has more than the recommended 'dose' per litre added. I guess that a lot of the yachts filling up are heading off to warmer climes and you don't want a big Oyster breaking down halfway across Biscay/the Atlantic because of dodgy fuel.
They also have a large throughput(?) of fuel so the tank is very clean.
Apart from a 50p per litre fill in Guernsey three years ago, we have always filled at Foxs and don't even get 'crud' in the Raycor filters.
1000 litres early this summer was painful on the wallet even with good discount.....
