Was at Premiere/Port S for winter and they were fair and friendly.
What does one recon on MDL or Premiere for an annual berth?

This is our 4th year with MDL and we've found them fantastic. I was working on the boat one afternoon with the window open and it started to rain - within 5 minutes I had a phone call telling me it was raining, I'd left a window open and would I like them to go over and close it for me. We've sat on board and watched a boat across the fairway start banging against the pontoon, called thee office and seen people on board moving fenders in minutes.

Incidentally, I'd choose Ocean Village over Puerto Solente any day - 5 minutes walk into town, loads to do: shopping, cinemas, bars, restaurants...

8th year with MDL.. always found them helpful and friendly too.
I think I'd choose by marina though -and price- rather than any company loyalty.

Very happy with MDL after 3 years, but then my experience of Premier is for overnight stays only. Eastbourne and Brighton very good, Swanwick I have reservations.

Been at chichester for 7 years with Premier and they have been brilliant.

Not liked MDL since I made a comment on here about them (electricity cables) and recieved a pm from them threatening me with legal action. Fools.

Been with MDL at Bray on the Thames and Hamble Point. Got to say they are not cheap, but they do give good service. They have been totally helpful to me.

I think you pay for what you get. My only experience of Premiere was Swanick were we stored a yacht for sale and they were not very good at all. Kept promising to do things and never did!

Cheers

I'm sure that there are good and bad points for each marina, let alone each company.

Personally I have been with MDL for 8 years - not all at the same marina. The management at our marina has changed several times over the time I have been here. I think they would benefit from some stability in the near future.

If every marina had an active berthholders committee, both sides would benefit from the mutual involvement. Having said that, I always enjoy the opportunity to chat to senior management at the SBS each year. All credit to them, they do attend and they do listen.

I am at Ocean Village / MDL and have to say the staff there are 110% - same as teh window open comment< I had problems with leaking water outlet and Steve from teh marina was on the phone within minutes and then on teh boat helping out to clear the problem at 11pm. The other guysin the dock office are just too helpful.

But I did spent a few years at Gosport ? premier and they too were also very helful / friendly. MDL seem to have the bettr location marinas. all my opinion only of course

At the risk of this thread becoming an MDL love-in, I too am at Ocean Village and have no complaints. Having the lounge at SBS to relax in was the icing on the cake but I think Premier do that as well don't they. So I guess I would say chose by your preferred location.

Had no experience of Premier other than being a visitor. We've been in Mercury for a few years and are happy with the facilities and especially the staff who are always pro-active. I would think that the exhorbitant fees they both charge wouldn't influence your decision more likely to be marina location/s.

Premier give more assistance in the event of a crisis

24 hour helpline
send a mechanic to you in or out of your marina anywhere in England and pay up to £250 for help.
If you are ill or broken down in CI, France pay for berthing fees and skipper to bring your boat back
if you can not use your boat they pay up to 6 months berthing

Only meant as brief overview please check with them for full details.

On the premier webiste they list the available berths at each of their marinas. I think they all had some availability across all boat sizes.

This data is not very up-to-date as I have found out recently when trying to arrange berthing for our new boat. Best thing to do is ring round, predictably.

Cheers

Personaly I've never had a problem with Premier. I've been at Brighton for 7 years now.

I was put off my MDL by their policy (might have changed now) of being very secretive with their berthing prices.

I'm hoping that the fuel increase might encourage MDL or Premier to lower their prices soon. I spend way more on berthing and insurance than I do on fuel.
