After a lovely sunny weekend with friends, for logistical reasons I ended up doing hamble back to Shamrock Quay single handed.

Arrival at SQ was going to be at full ebb on springs - and if you know the marina the tide really chucks it through for a while. I put some extra fenders out but even so the 1.5knot or so flow through the marina meant there wasn't going to leave much room for error.

I contacted them and they sent a launch - they saw I had fenders rigged but no warps so they offered to come aboard and help. "No thanks, I have lines on the pontoon, can someone just pop the forward spring on my middle cleat as I come in please" (I'm upsteam). Over they went to my berth and helped exactly as requested.

"Never be afraid to ask" they said, "it's never a problem." It felt like they meant it, it wasn't a have a nice day statement.

Typical of this marina. I remain a very happy customer.

Just about anyone at the Mercury Meet that arrived by boat will tell you that they took lines, hoicked people out of the water when they went swimming later in the night, and provided a huge service to everyone that attended. I know from pm's that a lota people were impressed by the professional behaviour of the staff. I know from doing admin of many events in MDL marinas over the years, they go out of their way to go that little bit extra, not just ybw events

When I went to thank them next morning, they told me about the swimming, though no bias at all, just 2 peeps went in, no hysterics, both out

They did a wonderful job

My parents have kept their boats at Mercury since 1970, moored next to Knox-Johnston's Suhaili for many years.. Therefore I feel like Mercury is my second home! The HM of SQ was originally from Mercury so they don't go far! I keep my boat at Hythe, another MDL marina. Again I can only praise the staff at Hythe. Had disastrous re-launch this year as my steering was seized which I hadn't realised until the drock lowered me in the water. Adrian the Marina Manager jumped in his rib & got me back to my mooring in seconds, no problem at all. Always very helpful... But I still think Mercury takes some beating...
