MDL otium

I lifted any of my boats out if not using for any length of time out of season, not just to give things a chance to dry out but same reasons shown in video above, weather can be quite cruel in some un sheltered marinas and as I lived quite a long drive away i couldn’t just go and check on boat easily.

As a new MDL customer, I found a way to pay monthly for my fees yet still get all my (berthing fee) points in one go to then buy a "cruising bundle", ie free nights at other MDL marinas rather than have to wait until points are amassed.

I simply took out a 0% on purchases credit card and put the annual berthing fee on the card. Min payment is 2.5% to the card and although it has a 20 month free period, I also save the equivalent of 6% of my berthing fee into an instant access account each month so that at the end of the year, I have the money to pay off the card if I wished.

Using £10k mooring fees as an example, min payments on the card reduce the balance to c £7,500 after 12 months and the difference having been paid into a savings account would have earned about £170 in interest over the year.

Don't buy any MDL services with Otium, apart from perhaps next year's berthing as the loss of points on fuel, yard services etc is too big a discount to miss.

Some places, like Hudson Radio at Mercury, accept points at face value and it's easy and fast to obtain voucher codes online to spend in this way.

The problem is there is not enough storage ashore , so come the spring boats can not be lifted out because some are still on the hard clogging up the lifts out .Mel have sold their storage yard for Torquay and Brixham , so is your yard next.
