I see in the Times Management Executive appointments section that MDL are looking to recruit Marina Managers. I wonder what constitutes an outstanding Marina Manager?.......

I hope it's not like the sales people at my marina then you need to have your head firmly up .......... I say no more. I asked them to write to me to say how mauch they'd put the boat on the market for if I decided to sell her - idiots want £25 for the letter.

1 - someone who has good customer service skills

2 - someone who has good people (staff) management skills

3 - someone who knows their arse from their elbow when it comes to boat handling

4 - someone who insists that owners put eyes on pontoon cleats and tie off on their boats.

5 - someone who understands that civility and helpfulness should be 24 hour commodities available to all from the stinkiest pot to the raggiest rag.

The ad says
1. Should have 5 years experience in a general management role, preferably in a customer service environment.
2. A proven background in driving and developing a business.
3. Able to demonstrate first class leadership and organisational skills.
4. Goal oriented, with proven ability to meet operational targets and improve financial processes.
5. A background in leisure or property sector and advantage but not essential.

Nothing about cleats I am afraid!

Sounds like the polite rip you off sir brigade .
Thing I don't get is ,why does some one who, quite likely has had to work very hard to accumulate enough wealth to own a boat then allow some twat to rip him off with every kind of overpriced bill and lack of service and it's accepted as the norm.
Could some wealthy person explain this to me .

I want a big steel ex trawler / tug v/cheep or swap for tug

I agree and have quite a reputaion in the chandlary for demanding low prices, managed to get them to give 21% off over the counter as they offered it over the web at that rate. Also got money off vouchers for all the new engine and refit they did - it's just about having the cheek to ask for it and being a choosy customer.

BTW they didn't get my 25 quid :-)

I agree too..why is this industry like this..
Its worse that IT and that is saying something!
Seems everything is high price and nothing gets done right. If it does get done right you think great I have finally found someone who I can trust. .....bet you the next time you use them it will be back to usuall bad service.
