We are a shell retailer, we sell 11m litres a year and require a tanker delivery daily, but as we are an owner operator site we can chose what price we sell. Obviously we would be bloody daft not to price match the shell owned site that happens to be opposite us.. However sometimes we are not able because shell has a policy to price match the nearest supermarket fuel retailer, whereas the price we pay for fuel is set by the daily platts pricing index. Sometimes if we price matched we would be selling every litre at a loss. Fortunately that has only happened for a few weeks this year. But as others have said slow moving independent fuel retailers like those on the water this time of year will pay for each fill and that fuel currently sitting in their tanks will owe them dearly.

red 35sec for farm use £0.60 per ltr, discount for quantities over 1000ltr,s
Supermarket price here in Portugal today:
Petrol: £0.96 per litre
Diesel: £0.83 per litre
Shows how much we are being ripped off by HM Treasury in tax and VAT. So much for EU harmonization at the altar of which we lost most of the tax free diesel for leisure boating.
No doubt marina prices somewhat higher.
