MDL extend reciprocal berthing arrangements

I had that letter too, and how touching was it to find Mike had personalised the letter with a 'John' and 'All the Best' over the normal typed stuff!

I know it's only a small and meaningless point to a lot of people, but when you're mail-shotting hundreds of letters out to a huge customer database, it means the world that somebody cares enough to bother.

And, in our fourth year with MDL, I have never had cause to complain, the whole place is clean and proper, staff friendly and helpful, and the perks are an added bonus.

Thank you MDL, well worth the annual cheque IMHO.

Those of us that berth with MDL on the Thames are aware of the ability to move fairly freely around the 3 Thames marinas without extra charge.
MDL have now introduced a wider scheme called FREEDOM BERTHING which extends the arrangement quite considerably and could be great for those of you that cruise further afield.

I think this a brilliant idea. Being in a zone 2 area I can go anywhere except the Hamble River, but still allowed 30 night there.

WELL DONE MDL.

That is a much better arrangement then the Premier Marinas arrangement. So much so I would change marinas. It's just a curse I'm paid up until the end of March.

Think its a great idea and well done to MDL for doing something different!

Fortunatly for me, i am a zone 1 berth holder so it means we can go anywhere! i understand it needs to be booked through your home berth rather than just turn up and expect a berth but given the benefits, this is no real hardship!

"Ditto, nice one"

Blimming good idea, might just encourage a few " LESS HARDY" souls to expand their horizons a bit knowing there is a secure comfy berth waiting at the end of the journey.
MDL at Chatham ferrinstance is a excellent stop off for the owner of, say for example a small but cute boat, going up and exploring the Medway.

The trouble is that, on B1s chart, the Mudway is annotated "Here be ye dragons!".

Here, here!

Totally agree, especially as I am probably just the exactly that "owner of a small cute boat". Well, I would be if said boat wasn't now stuck in Gilingham pending very expensive transmission repairs!!!!

Oh, and finally got my letter from MDL this afternoon - I don;t feel left out anymore! :)

Any news as to what exactly happened ?

Yup. well, according to the engineers, I must of hit some submerged debris. There was a short and slight judder, but then all was fine so seemed I might have sliced some weed or something. Then my revs and power dropped right off about a minute or so later. Oh, and there was smoke!...

Knackered duo prop, stripped intermediate drive shaft (how can something so small cost so much?) and of course the engine fly wheel is damed too. It wasn't my lucky day! :(

Outdrive off, engine out, parts changed, all put back together, tested and returned - altogether cost more than an annual mooring fee on the Thames!

MDL are very good but flipping expensive. The last couple of years they have followed a policy of increasing benefits rather than reducing prices. This extra benefit is very well thought through.

1/2 price yard fees, fuel at cost and now this are big benefits. When they introduced the 1/2 price yard fees, I'd been lifted a month before. They sent me a cheque and retrospectively applied the discount.

Overall they offer good value even if expensive.

Even before this new deal when I used to swap between Thames and the south coast they were always happy for me to change marinas mid year and just pay or receive the pro rata difference. This just makes it even easier.
