I know you lot only read MBM but I thought you may be interested in the YM editorial and I quote:
" At last parliamentarians are calling for an investigation into marina prices and the terms and conditions of berth holders........ etc."

Is this the end of high marina prices? or wil rip-off uk still rule?

Yeh I must admit once the politico's start looking at anything to do with boating, its always frightening. The immediate assumtion is that "Oh! they must be rolling in it, lets see if we can get some more tax or even better lets invent some more rules and regulations and let them pay for the pleasure."

Did you know that boating is more popular than you think, most hold the perception that it's a rich kids playground. Research shows that 1 in 74 people own a boat - now I would say that's quite a lot ?

Read a little further in to the mag. Especially the bit about the tax man investigating the moorings and villas abroard with regard to tax evasion on the income from rented villas and the perks of the "company boat" etc.
Still like the idea of the government getting involved in marinas etc ??

Dont like the government getting mixed up with anything. At best they will just make a cock up. But usualy much worse.

Hum. This govt is great at "investigating" things and "launching inquiries". The high costs CD's, Bull-bars on the fron of 4x4s, the time taken by large companies to pay their invoices and lots of other pressing issues.....with no action.

Parliamentarians asking for things is shorthand for "no hoper rentamouth backbenchers" so don't get yer hopes up at all. I confidently expect a nice donation to the labour party by the major shareholder of MDL of about 50 grand, and no action OR an investigation splashed aroudn the magazines - and then no action.
 
Time taken by companies to pay invoices

There's a new EU directive into force, which gives a max term of thirty days. Still to be implemented in Belgium, though. And I expect the same in the UK.

Hmm. In the UK, paying late and/or asking for money is the national sport between 9 am and 5pm monday to friday. In germany, they go to prison if they don't pay their bills.

Will it apply to private indeviduals as well ?

There worse than firms, in the passed we have shipped out spares to keep boats running, next year it will be credit card or cleared cheques.

Sad state the countries coming to.

. My biggest customer IS the government. I'd be luky if I get paid in 90 days, the norm is 120.

OK, to hell with it. Unbolt it and we'll use it as an anchor!
