I changed the filters / oil / impeller on my ever reliable Volvo Md7a yesterday. I had forgotten to bleed the fuel system and so when I fired her up after the service she ran for about 5-10 seconds then died. I now have clean, bubble free fuel coming out of the fuel pipe which feeds the injectors, but the engine wont fire. The engine has never missed a beat before so it must be something I have done. Can anyone help ?
Thanks.

Have you bled to the injectors? You need to slacken each pipe union on each injector in turn and swing the engine until you get fuel spurting from the union. Tighten the union whilst still turning and you should hear a 'creak' when the injector needle opens under pressure. Not sure about the MD7A but some engines also have a bleed screw on the hi press fuel pump. This is usually bled in the same way as the filters using the lift pump. The other possibility is that the fuel system is drawing in air on the suction side of the lift pump. Check filters are on tight and that seals have been renewed properly.

Thanks for your input. I went back to the boat yesterday evening, bled the system right through again and with one bleed screw still open I was cranking her over and thought she sounded like she was going to fire. I rigged up a hose, turned her over and off she went. Thank goodness.
Have a good season.

Krew 2 - do you know that your boat Racy Lady is about 0.5m away from Loo-Lah? Small world. Glad you got your engine started in the end too, but more glad I didnt have to put in the 5 hours that you did !!!
See you at the club this weekend no doubt...
