MD31A Hot water connection

Hi, I'm hoping someone can confirm the plumbing to a hot water heater off this engine. There are two plugs on the thermostat body(one lower than the other) which I assume are what I need to use as the inlet/outlet. Just not sure which is which. Any enlightenment on this issue would be appreciated.

the top one goes to top of calorifier the lower to lower.dont forget to have enough "rubber" pipe so that you form 2 slight U-bends,this will stop thermo syphoning so that the hot water remains in the calorifier.I connected a calorifier to my 2 MD31,s on my previous boat usind a twin coil calorifier.If you havent got the "cal" try Plumb Centre, they order them at half marina prices.I used car heater hose.

Thanks for your response. I should clarify that I'm connecting up to a heat exchanger type water heater. Using a new Johnson pump unit manufactured by Sigma in Italy I think.
