At the first time out this season, I discovered a fuel leak on the Volsplutter MD22.
The fuel leaks at return line on the injector of the 4th cylinder.
It is a banjo fitting.
How can such a leak start? Nothing has been changed and it has never leaked before?
Is it easy to cure? Are there washers (copper?) underneat and on top of the banjo fitting?
Any traps in changing them?

Banjos normally have two copper washers which can become work-hardened. Either replace or anneal them by heating to cherry-red with a blowtorch. That will soften them to enough to get a seal.
Or at least that's how oil leaks were sorted on my old Matchless.

Vibration can work harden copper washers or cause white metal washers to become deformed.

Should just be a matter of undoing the banjo stud and replacing the washer above and below the banjo and replacing and tightening the stud.

Dont use a shifter!!!!!!! Use a ring or socket spanner to retain those nice spanner flats.

It is unlikely you will have to reprime the engine.

You shouldn't need to replace them unless they have been annealed a few time and started to squash a bit thin - just look at the edge of the washer (usually visible before disassembly) and see if edge of washer is still square -if it is you simply reuse them after annealing.

PS don't be tempted just to give the union a bit of an extra tighten up !

Thanks guys!
I will get new rings and a new bolt, just to be sure.
Should not be that expensive (although Volspruttel...)
Is there a recommended torque to tighten the bolt?
What is a shifter??? How can I avoid dirt entering the system (apart from the obvious cleaning of the area)?

An adjustable spanner.......Might slip and damag the banjo stud. Tighten holding the spanner mid length so not to give too much.....I am a dinasaur so would use 20 lbs ft whatever that is in dutch inches /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
