I never stop being amazed by Volvo part prices

I phoned up for a shaft coupling flange - £170 - R and D Marine equivalent £65

I also need a heat exchange cap -£36. There are lots on ebay for £5-10 but I need a car part no - the Volvo no does not come up on their computer.

Can anyone help?

I have one of these engines. It is a re-badged Perkins. If some kind person can identify the Perkins model then spares may be very much cheaper.

I may be wrong but I think the HE is a Volvo part added to an industrial engine.

The old cap fits my 1955 MG radiator so I wonder if there is a standard size. But the MG one says 4 lbs while the volvo one is 7.5 kps (10 lbs?)

It should say the pressure stamped on it,go too your local motor factors, a friend bought one a few years ago for less than £5.

As said, go to a motor factors, the rad caps are a standard fitting, just ask for a 7.5 psi one or near enough. There is an issue that the brass neck is pressed in to the aluminium casting, it sets up white powder corrosion, this then splits the brass neck and it starts leaking. My neighbour in Albufeira had this issue, he went to a car rad repairer. Car rads nowadays are made of aluminium and plastic. The rad cap necks are aluminium and can be bought separately. The guy got one of these, welded it to a small plate, then cut the brass neck out of the casting and welded the new alloy neck and plate on. It was a beautiful job!

That might work, but the workshop manual says the cap is rated at 12.8psi.

Get one with the correct pressure rating. They come in a range of different values

Also make sure it is for the correct filler neck length. I believe there is some variation there too.

I recently bought a 'car' rad cap for my MD 2040. It should be rated at 12.8 lb btw. It seems to work ok but my issue is that it is very tight to do up and leads me to think that just maybe there is something slightly different about the outrageously priced VP part.
