MD11C - sorry

Difficulty with the MD11C is that there are two separate "frying pan" air intake filters. The rear one has the crankcase breather "connected" to it.

So be prepared to block both and maybe the connection for the breather, which IIRC, is just a hole in the frying pan with a hose poked into it.

And with an exposed flywheel whizzing round between you and the air filters lets hope it does not come to that .

Don't most MD11Cs have decompression levers? Wouldn't that be an easier/safer way to stop the engine in an emergency?

Us it does and I don't know!

The flywheel is high on my list of things not to hold my face against - I can get at them through the cockpit sole though.

By the way, I am doing a lot of postings during an extensive refit - the reason I love this forum is the conversation plays out and I can then search under my user name and all old threads pop up. Like an ongoing specialist journal which, as my boat jobs never, ever seem to progress in a straight line, can be dipped into when needed. It's great so thanks to all of you.

Good luck with the restart, and dont forget to sit back and listen to the musical thump, thump of a solid diesel.
Then just for good measure feel really smug that Dylan W wont (or cant) experience it.:)

Kind of like the difference between a 50cc motor scooter and a Harley engine?

Progress continues to be made - all spares now purchased (an eye watering £800 and it is still not running).

The neutral selector button on the inside of the throttle control is stuck in (at least it is stuck in neutral so we can run it up) - anyone worked on these and know how to fix them at all?

If its the one with a plastic cover on the button remove and see if that frees it if not its not repairable!

Ahh, saw a little grub screw in the bottom of the handle - removed it and nothing happened. Didn't want to force it at that stage - now I know, plastic cover. I assume a standard Vetus single handle control lever will replace if broken?

Cheers.
