MD11 Engine Mounts

Hi,

I'm still living in the dark ages and running an old Penta MD11C. Recently I purchased some new Vetus K75 engine mounts to fit to the MD11. I chose the K75s because they generally seemed to match the weight and drive loadings for the MD11. However, having now started fitting these, I find that the rear mountings of the MD11 only take about 1/3 of the overall engine weight and I'm now a bit concered that the K75 mounts might actually be too strong for the rear mounts. I'm sure the front mounts will be OK, given the weight of the flywheel etc.

My request for advice:- will the lighter-loaded rear K75s be OK? Although probably not ideal, will my setup basically be OK, given that the distance from the engine to the stuffing gland is around 6 feet?

im no expert but i cant see why they would be a problem. if you are worried that much i have 4 original mounts waiting to go to the dump if youd like them then get in touch!!

I know it's a heavy old engine, but the flywhel is ahead of the front mountings and is very heavy. I'm not sure the weight distribution will be 70/30 biased to the front, but if I remember, the rear ones are on the gearbox. If you know the weights of the flywheel enhine and gearbox, it's a simple calculation to work out the standing loads......

Thanks to you both. My only worry is that the rear mounts might not be heavily-enough loaded. I think that mounts should be correctly sized to ensure they kill vibration properly.

I'm going to go ahead and fit them. If it turns out not to work well, I could always fit K50 mounts, as the rear mounts are much easier to change.

Thanks for the offer of the old mounts, Tel1. It might be worth you trying them on ebay. When I was looking for Penta mounts (the official Volvo part) I searched for ages, but found none. If yours are in OK condition, you might get some cash for them.

Yup, but I've already bought the Vetus mounts! What I was saying was not to just throw them out, even although I don't think I need them (might regret that soon, though!).

The post I am replying to is quite old but could you let me know how the K75 mounts worked out?
I am in the process of trying to choose which to use K75, K50, or K100.
