Good news. To change the MMSI was quite a simple process, providing that one has a Windows laptop with a CD-ROM, and the original CD-ROM of course.
Helpful people at McMurdo/Orolia gave me the "code" to change the MMSI, which went well.
Thumbs up to all. I used my wife's Windows 10 laptop, as it wouldn't work on my very old Windows XP.
Virtual red wines all round!🍷🍷

The nice person at Standard Horizon/Yaesu told me, once I'd confirmed my firmware version that; "That’s good news, your radio has the latest firmware so you can reset the MMSI remotely.", and included the procedure, from the GX2200 menu, which once activated requires me to only email them for the 'code'.
