Eileen McKeever, Thames Waterway Manager, has been involved in waterways issues in various roles in the Environment Agency since joining its predecessor, the National Rivers Authority in 1992.


She has been considering the balance of her work and commitments at home for some time and has decided to make some changes. When Eileen returns from annual leave at the end of July, she will be working part-time in a strategic regional role. We offer our thanks on behalf of all who have worked with Eileen over the years and wish her every success in her new role.

Mark Rowe, currently our operations manager ( Upper Thames ), will take up the role of Thames Waterway Manager with immediate effect, with support from our national team whilst we recruit a replacement to lead waterways into the future.

At least Mrs. McK knows something about boating, she has one on the Thames.

Whatever one thinks about EA management at least there was one person left who has some understanding of the issues, even if they couldn't do much about it.

Perhaps they'll move someone from Defra - what about from the farm payments section??

I think the new leader should be B. Alexander Esq: He knows more about the river than anyone else?

I know you are kidding but the fact is the river does need an all rounder, someone who understands everyone's needs, Anglers, Boaters, Riparian Owners, commercial users and even minority groups such as Ornithologists.

They would be well advised to look around for a Consultant to put in a couple of days a month. Perhaps then some of the idiotic and expensive mistakes they have made would be avoided.

Two days a week when you're not driving your JD's, good pay and absolutely no responsibility.

Sounds ideal, sign up immediately....
 
I had cause to write to Mr Rowe some years ago when he was heading up the EA's national navigation team after that fellow (Lawrence?) 'disappeared'. From my experience, he is good news and seems to know what he's talking about. Not a salty sea dog but I hear on the grape that the staff rate him - says a lot.

Better men than me out there Gunga Din /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif but I do see some instant savings that can be made and I would have pointed out some critical costly errors before they went ahead and made them.

So the fact that her boat has been used once this year is a good thing! By the way, that was to go to the opening of the visitors centre (to welcome NB's as they arrive from the canal) at kings Lock. She had to rush around a few days before to get a licence for her boat which had sat on it's mooring for five months unlicensed!!!!!

I don't know your source for that but I saw the orange sticky on her boat in March - sorry if I am sticking up for the poor woman! Seriously - can't blame her for not wanting to spend her leisure time in the firing line as well as her working life?!
 
Oh what joy to hear that Eileen suffering and her role has diministed into a part time Hopefully this means that the damaged that she has done so far is hopefully coming to an end....Good riddens McKeever.

Whilst I have never held back in the castigation of the EA over the Lock Keppers matter, I have, perhaps surprisingly, refrained from being quite this vehemant and personal, and as such, find this particular post a bit OTT to be honest /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I don't think so, sounds a bit personal from a lockie unfortunately.

I think we all know the real problem is much higher.
