Can anyone advise on where I can search for the MCA Registration Number of a Leisure Yacht ?

The UK Ship Register website seems to only give the option for registering a yacht or changing the existing registration. No option for searching yachts that are already registered.

This seems a bit odd to me. Is there public access to the list of registered UK yachts ?

No there is no list. If the boat is on the Part 1 register you can do a search with the registrar in Cardiff for a fee. All the necessary information on the MCA website.

Yacht Registration nos.

There is a way!
Go to the ITU website (I am assuming a yacht has a radio call sign) and in the MARS section, do a search with boat name.

You might get a lot of yachts with the same name (like mine), but you should be able to identify which one you are interested in (MMSI nos. are country coded) and you then get:-
Call sign
MMSI no.
SSR No. (or registered no.)
Type of vessel
Epirb reg. no.
Radio Equipment details
No. of persons capacity (as declared by owner)
Tonnage
Owners name (but not address!)

Cheers,

Michael.

Nowhere in the possible list of details can I see a field for SSR or Part1 Registration number??

In fact very few fields are filled in for any boats I look up. I find it interesting though that you can find out the 'owner' name (actually the name used to apply for the radio licence). I personally couldn't care, and indeed in an emergency it could prove useful........but I can well believe some people getting very uptight about such info being freely available.

Vessel ID no. just above gross tonnage is the SSR no, on the listing for my boat.
