Current plan is to get Rogue coded for charter, (which may be difficult in malta - Local charter firm have said that it may be possible for a surveyor in malta to carry out the inspection which is then passed to MCA, but I'm not so sure having read some of it on the MCA site).

Anyway, before that happens, I need to get her up to compliance standards.

I cant find a definitive list of what the MCA requires, (the Act is bloody complicated - I need a list, which I might have missed), so....

If I comply with the RYA Training Vessel Checklist,

is it likely that I will have covered all of the MCA stuff?

or

where can i find a simple list, (albeit long), of what is needed to for MCA Coding.

I know this has been asked before, but a search for blue book, or MCA, or coding brings up loads of stuff, and I either read loads of threads to no avail, (which I have done), or ask again.....

the list you have is quite good but misses some detail eg: the number of lifejackets you must carry, the hinging of the forward hatch, the labeling of certain items (eg lifejackets, hatches).

No reference to having collision flares or crotch straps fitted to lifejackets. (but not in the code)

1. Liferaft rules have changed. The details can be found on the RYA web site. (Does not apply to existing installations.)

2. There are other rules on size of cockpit drains, bilge pumps with strum boxes etc.

Yea, I wasn't going to go into that level of detail.

Also the new regs state that batteries are now supposed to be the sealed type. As "local" country rules can take precedent I've agreed to change mine to this type when they fail. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

On the cooker I thought the gimbal points had to be of the lock types so there is no chance of the cooker falling out in a serious heel/capsize situation - not referenced in the list provided by Richard.

Richard, I'm just going thro the same process in the UK. While MGN 280 does conatin all the info, it makes heavy reading. The tip I got was to apply to one of the coding agencies (Eg: MECAL) - you fill in form SCV1 and send it off with your cheque and (eventually) you receive back a complete list of requirements for your particular boat

I'm in the process of renewing my coding for my tug which has a MCA code. I phoned up the coding section of the RYA and they were very very helpful. I then spoke to the surveyor who had done the last coding on her ( he remembered her very well) and we discussed what needed doing.
My plan is to do everything that is straightforward and engage the surveyor to do a pre-coding inspection to discuss the final details......this way I avoid spending money on the wrong things and get precise advise to meet the latest regulations. I think it will save me time and money in the long run.
