sadly tomorrows trial say has been cancelled due to the weather.

I have an accommodation booking I can't cancel so if anyone is down Gosport way and heading out for a ride and fancies dad and 2 kids as crew do shout !

Or any other suggestions of what to do in the area ?

Forecast is F5-7 ... Flower Power is staying attached to the pontoon, hopefully.
"Independence Day: Resurgence" is showing at Port Solent, if that's any help
Ice skating rink in Gosport - Planet Ice?
Submarine Museum?
Historic Dockyard across the water by ferry?

Submarine museum sounds cool thanks.

Force 7. No problem. If the magazine reviews are to be believed the boat will be rock solid, the hull will just eat it up and the drinks won't spill. Meanwhile in the real world ....

In fact, it is possible to make splashy 8kt progress in an F7 in a 28ft boat up the Solent.
All the crockery will be broken, the kids will be crying, canvas damaged, and it will be impossible to actually moor up in the marina.
Apart from that...

Very surprised as there will be plenty of suitable water between Harbour entrance and Gilkicker Point. I used that area for demonstrations for many years when too rough further out

We had a charter yesterday.

Thanks to the predictability of the wind and Solent Tides it was relatively easy to alter the itinerary to the point where most of the guests weren't aware of any wind. When you're doing 23 knots with a 25 knot wind behind you the re is no relative wind !

The only annoying thing was not having sufficient water to use the Inner Swashway coming into Portsmouth. We had to use the war memorial transit then suffer a small run into harbour with a beam sea. At 50 feet and circa 25 tonnes we can cope with a bit more than the boats being tested.

Not ideal for leaving the harbour though and running trials so a wise decision.

As has been suggested plenty to do in the area.

Edited to say frustratingly at the moment the water looks great outside Portsmouth. Just need to see what happens as the tide grabs a hold leaving the harbour and it's wind against tide although the wind is easing off a bit over predicted levels.

Henry :)

At submarine museum now which is fun.

The weather is quite nice but there was a big rain squall about 1 pm.

The event seems not to be commented on here much so I wonder if attendance was poor.

The event was at a slightly odd time - I'm not sure how many people buy boats in July, and many existing boat owners would rather be on their own boat, on the water.
Pitching it just before or after SIBS might draw more interest.
