Morning all,

We've got some vids to accompany the December issue.

If you go to the video section of mby.com (http://www.mby.com/galleries/videos) we've got a film from my trip on board the Hardy 62 between Southampton and Ipswich, Hugo's boat reports from the Cannes Boat Show, including the Monte Carlo 4, Cranchi Eco Trawler 53, Monte Carlo Yachts 86 and Azimut Magellano 53, and Stew's video report on the Dale Nelson 34 Open.

There's also a video by Greg from Swanwick's Used Boat Show and some footage from a charter we did on a Moorings Power Cat in the Florida Keys.

Hope you enjoy them; thoughts, criticisms and praise all very welcome - especially the latter...

Cheers,

Jack

Very enjoyable, well done. Seems to be a bit of a prob with the 53 Magellano vid in that the commentary and the vid itself are out of sync

Hi Mike,

Glad you like them, thanks. Something odd with that Magellano vid, you're right. Will have a play and try and sort it out.

I really enjoy these vids. A great addition to the MBY iPad-experience.

Well done with the Hardy vid!

Just a thought: a lavalier mic might give more flexibility in shooting and might help in dealing with the ambient noise in some circs? Slightly more hassle though.

Edit: sorry, i think you were wearing one in the princess video, so ignore my comment? I just didn't notice it on the hardy vid.

Hi K,

Thanks for this. We usually use a lapel mic with a wind protector but didn't have them on this shoot unfortunately.

Glad to hear you appreciate the embedded vids on the iPad, makes the effort feel worthwhile!

As much as I enjoy reading the boat reviews on the mag (and the seeing the high quality pics), I sometimes struggle to picture some of the details described, and their practical effect, in my head. The video with a good commentary makes this so much more easy. Take the MC5 as an example; even as the vid is just a taster to the actual report in the mag, it gives me a much more realistic picture of how things actually look and feel in the boat compared to the 'brochure' shots and the written description in the mag. If the contents of the report (applicable parts, anyway) were to be presented in the vid, I would get a lot more out of it and in a format that makes it easier to digest.

This coupled with the way google and the internet changes our ways of taking in info in two minute snippets, I'd say that a hybrid of vids, written facts and pics are the way forward with the emphasis on the vids. The popularity of Youtube with all it's educational content supports this. The y-generation will be watching those videos on Youtube and wondering if you have more quality content to offer and how to easily to gain access to it. They most probably won't be reading the (printed) magazine.

I realize that there are lots of practical implications to consider of course but keep up the good work and keep developing the way you deliver your content (which you are doing, of course).
