GPH. for me.

Mr Git
Oh 'Aged' one
GPH is still 'the way forward'
Litres are for 'Foreign' people
My last boat was 27ft and did 3 gallons an Hour
The Marina Boss where I kept Her said
'We will charge you 'so much a Meter'
'Is that for electricity'? I replied
'No' he said,' it's about the length of your boat'
'But my Boat is 27 feet' I replied
Plus my shoes are size 9
'Thats 45 or 47 in Euro talk' I added
'We are not in Europe'said the Docmeister
'Plus what's the size of yer feet got to do with it'?
He proffered' Walk with me to the Clubhouse' I said
'Let's have a Pint' I said
'8 makes a Gallon' I said
So we inched our way to the Bar
Foot by Foot
The Bar was quite a few Yards away
Probably a 'Cables' distance from My Berth
As We walked to the watering hole, we chatted as yer do
'Look at that big 'Mother =ucker' I said to the Dock chappie
'Bet that drinks some fuel'
He said
'It never goes anywhere'
'Not suprised' I remarked
'I did fill it on the fuel berth last week though' said Dockey
'Kinnel' I said
'How much did yer put in'?
'Only 3 gallons' He said!
'3iss off' I replied
'No' he said , that was just fer the Generator, tell Yer the boat goes nowhere but the fridge etc works overtime when They do leave the Marina to party etc'
So. We enjoyed a Pint or two
Sat there, over looking the Marina
Wondering how much fuel people used
My new Friend the Docmaster, piped up
'See that one over there, I put 2000 litres in Her the other day'
'Wow' I said 'Does He use the boat much'?
'Not often' said Docky 'but when he does he goes quite far, like last week He went to the Isle of Man and Ireland'
'Blimey' I said I wonder how much fuel He used?'
'About 12 gallons an hour, he told me'
Said Docky!
:D

Yep, just about sums it up Kwacka....:D

When did you last talk about the fuel consumption of your car in terms of litres per mile?

I buy in kWh for the car ;)

But I can’t relate to 1/100km in a car, no.

In a boat though I want to know a) how much will it cost me to get there and b) do I have enough fuel on board to get me there. L/NM tells me both and MPG does not - simples.

I'd like to buy my next boat in guineas please!

As far as MPG etc., the most useful to me would be litres per nautical mile. I buy diesel in litres, my tank capacity is measured in litres and I navigate by nautical miles. So litres per NM would be ideal, especially to save my little brain from needless maths.

LOL, obviously Deleted User doesn't stand a chance to demonstrate that NMPG (or anything else, for that matter) can be more logical than L/Nm.
BUT, he did demonstrate one thing, i.e. that MBY can't win.
No matter what they will decide to stick to, some of their readers will always complain.
Makes me wonder if they shouldn't rather get rid of measuring fuel burn altogether - after all, who cares about it?
I've yet to come across a moboer who REALLY does - most of them, if not all, just pretend they do.
For those mad/passionate/patient (just pick your preferred adjective) enough to go places by boat, anything better (and safer, btw!) than sailboats has yet to be invented.

Haha, yeah, I guess you are right, at least here in the asylum. Someone in Scuttlebutt might agree, though...

PS: All good in your EU trip so far? Looking fwd to catching up soon!

Well I will continue to use the proper fuel efficiency measure, nmpg, and I know I will be right:p
