MBM Proof reading

Is there such a thing?
Looked at the cover of the latest issue & thought ' hmmm, sure there was an article on engine cooling last month?'

ooops, it's about lubrication.

Then, i'm quite astonished to read that some modern diesels can reach the unheard-of speed of 400 RPM!

Come on fellas... I'll do the job (for a small consideration, of course)
 
Proof-reading would normally be done by a Sub-Editor, who would also normally arrange the layout, write the headlines, check for inconsistencies and inaccuracies, trim articles to fit the space available, re-write to make the meanderings of journalists legible (only kidding, guys), check for libel and so forth.

From MBM's "meet the team" section, it doesn't look as if they have a Sub's desk, and I'm guessing that this area is the responsibility of the Production Editor (who has very wisely decided not to have his photo displayed :)). He will probably spend most of his time trying to make sure that the magazine comes out on time, looking as it's meant to, so either (a) doesn't have much time to spare for subbing or (b) contracts it out to a freelance, who may know little about boating and/or be completely unfamiliar with what went on last month.

Or not.

Nice one! I like the MBM magazine, but I have to admit to having noticed several typos and inconsistencies myself recently.

I'm pretty sure one of the MBM team is actually a member/modeator on here, so I can't wait to see his reply ;)

PS: love the new S34 around Britain series :)

Obvious errors have been common for a long time. It's not a good advert for the accuracy of the "factual" info. contained in MBM articles is it?
Just another example of the general lowering of standards in publishing and society in general.
No wonder more students get A grades, when the teachers/examiners cant reed and rite propaly.

Sorry to hear about the lowering of standards in society. Hopefully its not all MBM's fault. Also very sorry about the typos. The guys here work very hard to bring you your issue and no one gets more upset by silly mistakes than us. I hope the rest of the issue had something in it for you to enjoy.

Well there's another gaffe - chance would be a fine thing. Where is my copy??
You mean you can't tell when I'm away from home, so don't send it to my holiday address??
 
It is not just MBM, I am tired of reading articles in magazines, newspapers etc. that have obviously not been subject to any form of proof reading, apart from maybe the electronic spell/grammar checker, and we all know how much use they are.
These people obviously have no pride in their work. :mad:

Please me for being an engine spec sheet anorak, but if Commercial Motor made as many screw ups as MBM, industry would be in uproar, boating press never seems to give a toss!

Ironic really that in a post, complaining about getting proof reading wrong, you didn't spot that in post #2 in this very thread, Seahope already pointed this out.

This proof reading lark isn't as easy as it seems. :D
 
Darn the speling ... at least thay do excelent product revues. ( As I found out when a potential customer phoned me today:o) ... my copy is in the UK. :eek:

So Chantal are you going to take up my offer or not? ( That should at least get Jack's attention!)
