I saw that too, useful article. In terms of time period: it's still 6-7 months which is similar to most boat seasons - April to October. At least close enough.

I read the original article but I thought I read the results were not going to be available until April's edition.

informed me enough to go with the tiger this year
Is that because it's good or its all rubbish therefore go with the cheapest ?

yep...thats the one. actually..

i also bought scuba gear. do a manual scrub during the season in water and its cheaper than a lift and jet wash and reapplication :D

I would imagine it was a case of get some results out ahead of most people buying and applying their antifoul for at least a partially informed decision and full results to come?

Sorry, bit slow to catch up on this one.

We painted the stripes in June 2021 as that's when the boat is usually lifted by Raymarine for antifouling.

It was next lifted in January 2022 to replace a transducer and we felt that was a good opportunity to get some results published in time for most reader's preference for antifouling in March/April.

The boat has now gone back in the water with the stripes still on but we're not yet sure when will be the next chance to monitor it and/or whether Raymarine will let us keep them (or a a smaller patch of them) on for another whole season.

However, we also painted a static panel at the same time as the boat so we can at least keep monitoring that for another season or more so we can provide at least one more useful update, especially for the longer term coatings like SilicOne and Coppercoat

I read the report in PBO today.

The results I had with Silic One reflected the comments in the report. A good outcome after 15 months immersion, but also very complicated to apply. The report doesn't mention stern gear, where the Silic One failed badly for me, and due to Covid use of the boat was minimal during the period.

A plus point was that after 15 months the maintenance to repair damaged patches would have been minimal (for the new owner).

I will definitely be applying Silic One to my next boat.

As an aside the costs mentioned excluding labour fees seemed a bit high. I coated my Corvette for ~ £550 and followed the application instructions to the letter.
