Hi All,
Travelling across UK south coast in this beautiful weather and next stop is Plymouth. We get a 50% discount from Mayflower marina because it is part of the transEurope group.
I have been told that Mayflower visitor berths are on the breakwater and can get very lively in strong winds. We will be there Thursday and Friday when 6/7 S/SW/W forecast, so does anyone have a berth there or can give an opinion? Boat is a Malo 36.

I am in Mayflower and I feel sure that they will give you a finger pontoon in the marina if one is available, as the berth holder is away. There were lots of empty berths last weekend. Mine will be available from Sunday-too late for you. If that is not possible, there are other marinas-at a cost. You do tend to plan marina stops round their TransEurope membership don't you?

I'm at Mayflower as well.
Older guides and pilots do show the outer breakwater for visitor berths.
This is now out of date.
You will easily be found a nice berth inside.

Be sure to try the shower rooms whilst you are there which are particularly good. Get the entry code from the office.

A bit more advice.
Tides can run pretty strongly through the marina , particularly at the North end , they also don't always run in the direction you think they might. Marina staff will very kindly take your mooring lines if you request this when you call them up.

If it's a spring tide I tend to avoid coming in during the middle hours of the flood or ebb , makes it easier. However , i do this when I am singlehanded , so don't get the risk out of proportion.

Yes, good point about the tides, especially springs ebb-obviously!! I used to be on the breakwater, now moved to C pontoon, much more civilised.

If it's too rough at Mayflower come round to Sutton Harbour, there is perfect shelter inside the lock in any conditions. Berthing within 5 minutes walk of the town shops and fleshpots of the Barbican, also the best and cleanest showers I've ever seen.
Flat calm inside the marina tonight.

Pity they didn't employ decent tilers though .... makes me mad everytime I visit!
